Operating the program
The following steps should be performed in the order listed:
Anatomic location and color
- After starting the DS OML program, the Start page will appear on your screen.
- Here you can choose between six options for locating the oral mucosa lesion.
- After clicking on the relevant category, you will in the second step be shown different options for color rendering of the selected region based on sample images.
- For side-by-side comparison, transfer your image created with an intraoral camera into Decision Support by clicking either "Import picture" or "Twain import".
- The selected image is then automatically transferred to every page you access thereafter. You can change its size and position by clicking on it with your mouse.

Viewing sample images
- After saving the intraoral image, select the sample image that most closely matches the oral mucosal lesion in the imported image.
- Markings on the lower left part of the image indicate that the selected oral mucosal lesion is not at the site in question, but at another site.

Diagnostics
- Once you've selected a sample image, other images will appear on the left side of the screen and your imported image will appear at the bottom of the screen.
- The right side of the screen will display the relevant diagnosis with a description of the characteristic features and recommended measures.
- The numbers in the text refer to the image samples shown on the left side from left to right and from the top down.
- You can enlarge (A+) or reduce (A-) the font by selecting one of the options beneath the text field. Moreover, you can print the displayed text by clicking "Print".

Differential diagnostics
- The smaller images on the lower left side of the screen represent differential diagnoses.
- Those highlighted in red contain particularly severe oral mucosa diseases.
- All differential diagnostic images can be accessed by clicking on sample images and the relevant clinical management.
- Clicking the arrows at the bottom of the screen takes you back to the previously accessed page.

Comparing different oral mucosa lesions
- If a differential diagnosis is indicated for an oral mucosal change, you can display both clinical pictures parallel to each other.
- To do this, click on the "i" in the upper left of the screen next to the corresponding differential diagnosis image.
- In the next step, you will have the option of looking at the text or the image corresponding to the differential diagnosis.
- Return to the previous page by clicking the "Back" button.

Importing image files
- The "Import picture" command (Ctrl + O) in the File menu allows you to import an image from any directory on your computer.
- After clicking on a picture in the selected directory, that image is previewed in the right-hand field of the window.
- The dimensions of the image are displayed, and the image can be enlarged or reduced using the magnifying glass icons.
- Once you have chosen an image, click the "Open" button to import it. Now you can enlarge or reduce the picture by clicking on it.
- The last directory opened remains available for additional image imports. You can delete the imported picture by clicking "Delete Image" in the Extras menu.
- DS OML supports the following image formats: BMP/JPG and TIF.

Index
- Clicking "Index" (Ctrl + I) displays a new window with diagnostic terms listed in alphabetical order.
- Highlighted terms in blue can be activated and show you immediately the sample images and the corresponding description of the relevant oral mucosa lesion (see 4.3.).
- If you run the mouse lightly over the terms, you will see a text field highlighted in yellow, which displays the description of the characteristic features and recommendations.
- The search function at the bottom of the window lets you find the desired clinical picture even more quickly and efficiently.
- After a letter is entered in the search field, the index is automatically positioned on terms starting with the selected letter.
